Our founder, Anju Arora, was invited as a panelist for a Panel Discussion on #MenstrualHygiene at Raahat, a Sanitation Conference. It was a great experience as all the four panelists – Smita Kulkarni of Stone Soup, Kavya Menon of Sustainable Menstruation Tamil Nadu, Anju Bisht of Saukhyam Pads and Anju Arora created awareness about how wonderful cups and cloth pads are, they spoke about the ground realities of effects of #MenstrualMyths and taboos and how it is impacting the state of hygiene among girls and women at grass-root level. Some real facts about the impacts of schemes like Laadli, which distributes free sanitary napkins among rural communities, was also shared.
And they also shed light about incineration, appropriate ways of carrying it on and if it is truly a solution or another problem in making if carried on in decentralised ways.
They also touched upon if biodegradable pads are really environment friendly as they claim to be? Or for that matter, health friendly?
At Least the audience will search for these answers.
